MRT signed a letter of support for US Bike Route 51 (USBR51) and US Bike Route 251 (USBR251). Read the letter below to learn more about what the proposed bike routes can mean for rural Missouri communities.

A new bike route is in the planning process in Missouri, which will transverse the entire state from north to south. The Adventure Cycling Association is responsible for working with state agencies to develop this burgeoning national system. They define the US Bike Route System this way:

The U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is a developing national network of bicycle routes connecting urban and rural communities via signed roads and trails. Created with public input, U.S. Bicycle Routes direct bicyclists to a preferred route through a city, county, or state – creating opportunities for people everywhere to bicycle for travel, transportation, and recreation.

A USBR51/251 coalition has been meeting regularly to gather support for the proposed extension of the US Bike Route System into Southwest Missouri. MRT provided our letter of support to ensure we elevate the voices of rural communities that we work with along the proposed route.
