Your support is crucial for advocating to improve statewide active transportation planning and development in Missouri. This blog outlines three steps to move the needle:
- Learn about our proposal for a statewide active transportation plan
- Write a letter of support on behalf of your organization (use this template)
- Share your support in public comments to MoDOT (visit this link–MoDOT has not yet released the dates of the public comment period, which will likely open in February)
Statewide Active Transportation Plan Proposal
MRT is advocating for MoDOT to adopt a statewide active transportation plan to address critical gaps in safety, funding, connectivity, and policy for non-motorized transportation across Missouri.
A Missouri statewide active transportation plan would:
- Improve safety and accessibility for all users
- Align with federal and state policy goals
- Provide a strategic, equitable, and cost-effective approach to transportation planning
Write a Letter of Support
If you represent an organization and support the need for a statewide active transportation plan, please write a letter of support. Letters will be consolidated and shared as part of the public comment period for MoDOT's 2026 Long-Range Transportation Plan update.
Please send completed letters to jackson@movingmissouri.org by February 20, 2026.

Public Comments for MoDOT's Long-Range Transportation Plan [LRTP]
MoDOT is updating Missouri's Long-Range Transportation Plan in 2026, which "sets the 25-year vision for the state’s transportation system and establishes goals and objectives."
The LRTP will have a public comment period (*note, MoDOT has not yet released the dates of the public comment period, which will likely open in February), and this is our opportunity to demonstrate the statewide interest and need for a Missouri active transportation planning framework.
